Windows

Windows logoAccording to a report on the PC Pro web site, it appears that Microsoft plans to remove the world wide sales of Windows XP on the 30th of June this year.
They do have final Service Pack (SP3) scheduled for Windows XP at the end of the month, then those of us with Windows XP will be limited to on-line support/downloads until they 'pull the plug' on those (as is their policy for “old” Operating Systems).

We have moved along with the times here at Base 1 Solutions Ltd., we started with Windows 95, we've moved through the various MS operating systems and now we use both XP and Vista.
The thing is, in my experience in both support and development, I know for a fact, that there are organisations and individuals who are still using previous versions of Windows and are quite happy to do so.
I believe Microsoft wants all Windows users to move to Vista and then unto its new OS when they release it at some point next year.

Now I know there are many experienced and novice users who have opted for alternatives, I.e. Mac OS and the various versions of Linux, but we all have to accept that Windows is the most used OS.

If you're a windows user I have 2 questions for you.

  1. What version of Windows are you using?
  2. If you're not using Vista, will you be upgrading to Vista or will you wait for the new OS next year?

Please leave your answers here.

Thanks (in advance) for your response.

We've completed our apprenticeship.

The other day a friend of mine made a suggestion that I should go on the BBC show 'The Apprentice'...I took that suggestion as a big compliment.
I watched the first 2 series and thought that Alan Sugar and his team did well to pick both Tim & Michelle as winners.

Lois and I are both born and bred North-Londoners, we've both done 'our bit' in working for others in various parts of our city and (as stated on our
profile page) I have been working (albeit part-time) since I was 13.
Building Base 1 Solutions Ltd. Obviously doesn't mean we have stopped working for others, but it does mean we have more of a say over our 'working life destiny'.
Since 1998 we have been overcoming various obstacles and hindrances to get where we are today and I'm sure there will be more to come before our journey is over.

The way I see it, we have been serving our apprenticeship over the last 9 plus years, overcoming adversity is fast becoming our speciality, and I'm sure we are not alone.
Anyone who has taken a leap of faith to do something (that others doubted they could do) will have to overcome their own hurdles.

So, as I said, we have completed our apprenticeship, it has been a long hard one, dealing with the red-tape, prejudices, negative responses, false hopes, steep learning curves, restrictions on how we can advertise and the abundant amounts of paper-work has not phased us.
To use some boxing metaphors...we are like a boxer determined to go the full 15 rounds to get the title.
Our opponent is strong, we have taken many blows and have nearly been knocked out but we keep getting up.
We have the best corner man around who miraculously keeps patching us up and getting us ready for the next round.
We've been on the ropes for many rounds and at times we have fought back to dominate from the centre of the ring.
One thing for sure, is this, the only way we are coming out of the ring, is in a body bag and our opponent is well aware of that fact.
We get knocked down, but we get up again because we refuse to stay down.
We will continue to fight toe-to-toe until we are crowned as champions.

Phil Gayle.
